Review: Shea Moisture Papaya & Neroli w/ Elderflower All Day Frizz Control Shampoo
Decided to take a break from the medical conditions and indulge in a review. I’ve been using this shampoo for awhile but I haven’t really seen any reviews on it. So here goes! Shea Moisture is known for putting out quality products ever since foremother Sofi Tucker sold her wares including shea butter, African black soap,and homemade beauty preparations in Sierra Leone back in 1912.
I’ve been needing a good shampoo for a long time. Shea Moisture products are individualized to as many different types of hair as humanly possible. You are bound to find a product that suits your needs perfectly.
Let’s look at some of the ingredients:
Water: great hydrator
Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate: A surfactant that can be found in clarifying shampoos, body washes, and even toothpaste that is derived from coconut oil.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine: A surfactant derived from coconut oil and dimethylaminopropylamine (a colorless liquid) that is supposed to be moisturizing. Creates rich, thick lather in foaming products. Thickens personal care products and cleansers. Hydrates and nourishes skin.
Glycerin: A sugar alcohol from animal and plant sources. Humectant that retains moisture and hydrates the skin and hair. Draws in moisture to the scalp that may prevent a host of issues such as dandruff or oil overproduction. Reduces hair dehydration, frizz, and breakage. Encourages better hair growth.
Glycol Distearate: A white waxy solid not soluble in water. Used to make products pearly looking.
Lauric Acid: A saturated fatty acid found in coconut and palm kernel oils. Protects the roots of your hair. Penetrates the hair shaft and nourishes hair with vitamins, minerals, and medium chain fatty acids.
Propanediol: A solvent, humectant, and emollient that is derived from corn sugar. Increases water retention. Softens and smooths skin by reducing water loss. Allows formulas to flow well and use easily on skin and hair.
Butyrospermum parkii (Shea Butter): Emollient that contains Vitamin A, E, and F. Rich in fatty acids that hydrate, revitalize, and soothe the scalp and hair. Natural conditioner for hair. Has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Acts as a sunscreen agent.

The first thing I noticed about this shampoo is how well it lathers. Usually you have to work really hard to achieve a good lathering but with this shampoo, it only took but so much. The fragrance is very subtle and reminds you that the shampoo does contain papaya, neroli, and elderflower. The scent is fruity and somewhat floral.
This shampoo has a thin consistency which helps with achieving that lather. It is moisturizing and clarifying at the same time. Once I put the product in my hair the suds took over. The shampoo does have some slip to it. Not a tremendous amount so don’t get excited but some slip which helps with detangling.
When I rinsed the product from my hair after shampooing twice, I could feel the knots melt away. My scalp and hair felt deeply cleansed without stripping my hair of moisture which with some shampoos you have to be careful about that.
You don’t have to overdo it with applying the shampoo in your hair. A little goes a long way in terms of sud action, which is good because there is nothing worst than finishing a brand new bottle of shampoo too soon. And I have used other Shea Moisture shampoos and had to replace them as soon as possible because I had to use too much in one sitting. You won’t find that with this one.
I used this shampoo with Shea Moisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque and the combination of these two products did not disappoint. My hair felt thoroughly moisturized. The shampoo definitely sets the stage for my wash and go style. This product does what it claims. I didn’t have any frizz to speak of.
I probably could have gotten away with just shampooing my hair once but just to be on the safe side I like to do it twice because I use a lot of products in my hair for the styling process.
What I appreciate the most about this product is that it is cost efficient. You get a lot of wash days out of this $10.99 13 fl oz bottle. My hair didn’t feel dried out after using this product which is a big plus. Also this product wasn’t excruciatingly hard to rinse out which happens with some shampoos.
I am a little curious to try out some other Shea Moisture products like the Power Greens shampoo just to see the difference. But I would like to keep this particular shampoo in my rotation because it is that reliable.
The other thing I noticed was that I don’t shed as much hair after using this shampoo. I don’t know if that has to do with the hydrolyzed rice protein as an ingredient that may in fact strengthen your hair. But that ingredient is farther down the list so I don’t know if it is a factor or not in terms of protecting your hair.
Overall, I would purchase this shampoo again (and I have). The scent is not overwhelming and I walk away with a clean scalp and hydrated hair. I didn’t have any product residue after using this shampoo which is great for building a foundation towards beautiful hair.
